my DIYish wedding (1)

I feel like I haven't posted here in 100 years.
Between cranking out earrings and necklaces (which still need to be photographed... agh!), I've been really busy with finishing up school and planning my wedding.

Here are the facts:
  • I'm getting married in September.
  • I have less than three months to pull this all together.
  • I want to incorporate as much DIY as I can feasibly handle.
  • I also want to keep it as eco-conscious as possible.
I'm not sure if I was emotionally prepared for the undertaking of wedding planning. My thoughts all along were "Why make a big deal out of it? It's one day! I'm going to keep it simple."

It is really easy to lose sight of those initial thoughts when you're in the trenches navigating the vendors, the gaudy decor and general heavy pressure of the wedding machine. For instance, I was not aware that peel and eat shrimp was tacky. I didn't realise that wedding invitations had so many moving parts. And who knew that a certain kind of chair was preferred for receptions.
Not me.

Is there a place to put my ass while I eat?
Yes?
Good.

Anyway, I'm going to be posting a series called my DIYish wedding where I will share my happiness and my hell with you, gentle reader.

Enjoy.

Way to go- I was going to school and working and I planned my own wedding. You can do it! Just be impulsive, don't fret about the decisions. Just go with your first instinct... thats my best advise.

Congrats!

Good luck and have fun. This sounds like a good reason to have a craft night, you know... happy to help if you feel like setting up camp in JC one night. I have a glue gun, that's all I'm saying.

Oh thank you so much for your comments! And for adding me to your blog reel. Comments are a relatively new phenomenon for me. I can't get enough of them its like a candy jar and you just can't keep your hand out of it. Let me know if you want any advise on the wedding front. Can't wait to see what you come up with! No matter what it will be great-thats the magic of weddings.

we got married in vegas with friends and family. i originally wanted to get married on the beach, just us, but the family wanted to be there. there are some new books out on diy weddings that look great. i wish they had stuff like that when i was getting married. i was so overwhelmed because my mom wasn't involved, my mom in law is not a girly kinda lady and got married with a potluck dinner after, so i end up doing less than i should have. but at the same time, don't get pushed into stuff you don't want or don't care about.

here is my advice (for what it is worth) have a wedding binder. make a list of what is really important to you. make a list of what is not important to you. refer to list often and whenever you start freaking out.

if you want a cool cake topper, let me know, we can work on something.

congrats by the way!

oh, and make sure that you get an awesome hairdresser to do your hair and a good photographer. or you will be sorry. that is one thing to make sure you have.

Last year I planned my wedding for about 4 months before i went back to grad school. We got married 1 week before we had to relocate and I started school - it was stressful and I did everything myself (flowers and all!!) but it was so worth it - best day ever!!

my point - you can do it and it will be great!!
